The Dakdu are just as curious as the Koma and Leppy. They aren't unfamiliar, merely...interesting. Their heads, paws, tail, ears, and legs all resemble that of a wolf. But there's something off- the eyes are too large and moist, the paws lack claws, and the teeth are the flatness of an herbivore's. Their body is as solid as an ox, but magnificent ivory antlers curve from their heads if they are male.
Because of their sturdiness, and the ability of the females to give milk, they are the herdbeasts and milk source in Middle World. They also are a tasty meat and what the dragons, griffins, and people feed off of. They can pull carriages or wagons, but it's not recommended to ride their back as one would a griffin; their backs are so wide you would be as bow-legged as they come. Dakdu are little more intelligent than a cow, and are so placid they seem to lack temperament. All they eat is grass.
As for the milk...remember when you were little and believed chocolate milk was from brown cows? Different colors of Dakdu produce different milks. There are only four different types and none of them are rarer than another. The first ranges from white to yellow in color. Their milk is the heaviest, creamiest blend with the flavors of vanilla, lemon, and fresh mint rolling into each other. This milk is white or light yellow in color. The second is brown or black, and tastes of a cross between coffee, chocolate, and licorice. The color of the milk is an opaque black and slightly caffeinated- it is not as thick as the other milks, and is popular with adults.
The third comes from rusty red to pink Dakdu, and has a fruity flavor that's laden with the essences of pomegranate, cherry, strawberry, banana, cinnamon, and pineapple. It's a favorite of younger children, and is a pearly pink in color. The last comes from blue to green Dakdu. It's used in cooking and not for drink since it is salty, with the tastes of coconut and lime.
