Gryphons are about the size of a tiger, some a tiny bit bigger or smaller but not much. The have the head, wings and front legs of an eagle and the hindquarters of a lion, sometimes even a tiger, cheetah, or leopard. They are very loyal and understanding. They are very fast both in the air and on the ground. They are also very strong creatures, able to carry much more weight than it would look like they are capable of. Also, being extremely intelligent, they, unlike most animals, are capable of both speech and telepathy.
Having extremely sharp beaks and claws, on both their front and hindquarters, they serve as one of the main predators, along with the dragons, in Middle World. They will hunt anything they can, though, the more civilized gryphons will only hunt wild creatures, and stray away from those owned by humans.
They are compassionate towards humans for the most part, and will often help them when needed. However, they will most likely request some form of payment for any assistance, especially if it requires anything normally given to a beast of burden. They are very prideful creatures, and any blow to their pride will usually not end well for whoever insulted them. Though, the only thing bigger than their pride might just be their greed. If you offer them something they really want, they will probably be willing to do all sorts of tasks. Along with acting as a temporary beast of burden, they will gladly act as transportation, being able to carry one person, sometimes two depending on size, at a time.
